My passion for domestic violence awareness stems from personally being a domestic violence survivor.
Through my activism, advocacy, and philanthropy this year, I intend to open up more about my personal experiences. How I navigated and ultimately survived domestic violence.

Cheslie Kryst’s mother, April Simpkins
April Simpkins is on a mission in turning her pain, grief, and loss into purpose. Advocating for mental health awareness all in the name of her daughter Cheslie. WE, as women, but especially as BLACK WOMEN, have enough barriers left to overcome just because of the simple fact that we’re women. This isn’t helping. I just want to simply tell you both that we are stronger together than we will ever be apart. Always will be.
My God! Stand firm on God’s word and His promises. When the INTERVIEWER gets exhorted and lifted in spirit by two anointed women of God! Whew! Father continue using those called to speak life and hope into those who are weary and burdened. Bless your name Jesus. 🙌🏼
Wishing my big sister Medina a very happy 34th birthday! I pray this chapter is filled with an abundance of love, purpose, peace, and prosperity. You deserve all things magical. I love you. ♥️
Be patient. Take up space. Let your journey hold your hand while you heal yourself. To heal is to touch with love that which we previously touched with fear. Confront your grief, don’t run from it.
Your character, Olivia Benson, has stolen hearts and withstood the test of time for 25 years (25 seasons). Whether onscreen or offscreen, your vulnerability and advocacy for sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse are truly unmatched and necessary. Thank you for advancing the women’s movement and the quality of life one episode at a time!
We are all beyond grateful for your service to television and through your foundation, Joyful Heart.
May this new decade of living be filled with all of the compassion, fulfillment, and love that you give to those both near and far.
I’ll never forget, in 2016, having the privilege of sitting in the same room as you.
