Overturning the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade was grossly devastating and disappointing. But one thing we can’t deny is that conservative leaders fiercely pushed, advocated, and strategically lobbied to make abortion illegal. Ultimately, and unfortunately, their efforts succeeded.
Then there’s gun regulation. [insert crickets]
Where is the lobbying to make our country safer? Where is the fierce desire to protect our people? Where is the same energy in regulating guns / firearms?
Devastation after devastation. Tragedy after tragedy. We need gun regulation and not just “thoughts and prayers.” It’s simply not enough anymore.
Disclaimer: I fully support the SECOND AMENDMENT: Right to Bear Arms. Protecting yourself and self-defense are very important.
Hear me out though: The Second Amendment states that as an American citizen, you have the individual right to arm yourself. The amendment also firmly establishes that the government can not infringe upon that right to bear arms and protect yourself.
Why is this right NOT ALSO afforded to women (persons) in their private and personal decision to terminate their pregnancy or not?
It’s twofold: One, stop trying to regulate a woman’s body. Two, regulate and pass federal gun regulation.
P.s.: thank you Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) for signing Commonsense Gun Violence Prevention Legislation to Keep Michigan Communities Safer. Your dedication and efforts are important and necessary. I stand with you.
