Detroit Police Department

Hearing the devastating news that you were taken back in 2019 was heartbreaking. Not in the line of duty, not that that would have provided any solace. But from domestic abuse at the hands of a cold and calculated abuser. May he reap what he sowed.

I pray my advocacy and activism for domestic violence awareness creates a safety net of hope and freedom for the most vulnerable.

May your memory continue to inspire and bless us all.

Kits filled with comfort items for survivors of domestic abuse / violence residing in a women’s shelter.

Growing up, I was subjected to domestic violence and watched my mother fall victim to it for many years. She, however, didn’t stay a victim. She emerged as a survivor, and so did I.

Both my mother and I are survivors of domestic abuse. Out of respect and privacy for her story and mine, I’ll withhold any further details.

I would like to introduce, in honor of my Mother Sonia, my Survivor Care Kits! 💜 Survivor Care Kits are kits filled with comfort items for survivors of domestic abuse / violence residing in a women’s shelter.

I’ve chosen the Detroit Police Victim’s Assistance Program as my first location. Oftentimes, women’s domestic absuse shelters are secret locations so that the victims are protected and kept safe. I’m confident that the Detroit Police Department will get these kits to where they are most needed.

How protective I now am over my peace, mental stability, happiness, love, trust, loyalty, devotion, privacy, body, spirit and soul. 🎀 Safe and single and I DON’T want to mingle. ✌🏽

There is no timestamp on trauma, pain, devastation, and grief. There isn’t a formula that you can insert yourself into to speed up the healing process. You have to sit with those uncomfortable emotions, have those difficult conversations, and sort through those painful feelings. Be patient. Take up space. Let your journey hold your hand while you heal yourself. To heal is to touch with love that which we previously touched with fear. Confront your trauma and don’t run from it. I am better off healed than I ever was broken.
